Most pilot trips to Portugal arrive with a tour operator, fly for a single week in November, and leave on Sunday. They are good. They are also expensive, fixed in their dates, and only on site for a fraction of the year.
Fly with Behrooz is built differently. A local competition pilot who lives in Sesimbra. Year-round access to the Arrábida cliffs, Cabo Espichel, the Costa Vicentina — and across the border into Andalusia when the inland thermal season opens.
You organise your own flights, accommodation and rental car. You pay only for the guiding. The price of a real flying holiday becomes the price of a long weekend.
Sesimbra sits 30 minutes south of Lisbon airport — and the geography around the town packs more flyable terrain into a 30-kilometre radius than almost anywhere else on the Atlantic coast.
West of town, a long line of cliffs and dunes catches northwest and west winds — a dozen launches within a fifteen-minute drive, working light to strong conditions. To the south, the Arrábida natural park opens up southwest through south to southeast lines. To the north, inland thermal launches with northerly orientations are inside a forty-minute drive. Every wind direction has an answer here.
And the weather works in your favour. Sesimbra has its own microclimate — drier and warmer than Lisbon proper, with the gap to the Algarve narrowing year on year. Where Lisbon catches Atlantic moisture and ocean cloud, Sesimbra often sits in clear, sunlit air on the very same day.
Central position next to a major European hub, launches across every wind direction within an hour's drive, and a microclimate that delivers more flyable days than anywhere else in reach. For serious pilots, this is the Mecca of Portuguese paragliding.

All prices per pilot. Travel, accommodation and rental car are organised by you. Behrooz can recommend hotels, guesthouses and rentals informally — but never as a booking intermediary. This keeps the offer legally clear as pilot coaching, not a packaged tour.

Coastal soaring season
Ten months of laminar Atlantic wind on the cliffs. Mild temperatures, low rainfall, the most reliable cliff-soaring window in Europe. The mild Portuguese winter — daily flying while northern Europe is grounded — is especially loved by Scandinavian, Dutch and German pilots.
Cross-country season
Seven months of thermals across Portugal and Andalusia. From spring's high cloudbase to autumn's strong climbs, the inland season runs deep — and the Iberian XC Tour is built right into its peak weeks.

The deepest thermal window of the year. Summer convection across the inland sites — long climbs, late cloudbase, the strongest cross-country season in Iberia.
Coastal & Family Trip
The summer trip designed for pilots who travel with partners or family. Morning ridge sessions and dune soaring at Costa Caparica when the nortada plays, afternoons in Arrábida — boat tours, beaches, ground-handling on the sand.
Most pilot trips to Portugal lock in their dates six months ahead — and fly whatever week they happen to land on. Some weeks deliver Atlantic perfection from the first day. Other weeks have a few wind shifts that move the action to different sites. Either way, the date is fixed. We do it differently.
Because Behrooz lives here year-round, you don't need to commit far in advance. Decide your week one or two weeks before — sometimes a few days, occasionally the day before — when the forecast shows where the air will be working best. When the wind window shifts mid-trip, we move with it: Costa Vicentina three hours south, the inland thermal sites, or across the border into Andalusia when Spain opens up. Somewhere on the Iberian peninsula, the air is almost always doing something. The plan is to fly, not to stick to a schedule.
This flexibility works for everyone:
A practical tip on accommodation: hold off on hotel reservations until the trip is confirmed. Sesimbra has plenty of pensions and small hotels with same-week availability — Behrooz will point you to three or four reliable options when the dates lock. The pilots who fly the most days are the ones who didn't book the hotel six months ago.
The goal is simple: more flying days, better flying days. That's what flexibility buys you.
Flying in Portugal follows the same international right-of-way rules you already trained on. The practical checklist for visiting pilots is short:
DHV, SHV, FFVL, BHPA, USHPA — whichever national rating you fly under at home. From A-licence with a confident reverse start upwards. An FAI IPPI Card alongside your licence is welcome but not strictly required for licensed pilots flying privately.
Third-party liability cover valid for Portugal. Standard federation policies (DHV, SHV, FFVL etc.) exceed the Portuguese legal minimum of €150,000 by a comfortable margin. Bring your policy card on the first day.
Your wing, harness, helmet and reserve. The principle: you fly the equipment you trained on. If you need gear, rentals can be arranged on request — including parakites for the Parakite Week. Just let us know what you need when you book.
Some Portuguese flying sites carry seasonal restrictions, especially through the summer holidays. Behrooz lives here year-round and knows exactly which site is open when, where the wind window sits today, and where the weather is breaking. You don't need to figure that out — that's the guiding you're paying for.
